Cancer charity remains open for support

Cancer Support France has received a steady stream of enquiries since opening up its services to give help during the Covid-19 crisis.

Any English speaker who is elderly, vulnerable, isolated or has health problems can make contact for emotional and practical support by telephone or email.

President Pat Lockett said: “We are receiving calls from people who have the virus, and others who are simply worried.

“Sadly, we have also been called on to help people at the end of life.

“We have also received enquiries from new volunteers. That will stand us in good stead once the crisis is over.” To contact the helpline, call 0800 240 200, or email helpline@cancersupportfrance.org.

The charity’s annual Cycle for Life fundraising and awareness event, due to take place in June, has been postponed until September 23-26.

The ride will be shorter than planned, starting at Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, and following La Flow Vélo cycle path, stopping at Saint-Savinien-sur-Charente, and ending at Angoulême with a ride around the area.

Last year, sponsorship from the Cycle for Life raised almost enough funds to cover the costs of the annual three-day trainers’ conference, enabling trainers to share, discuss and develop their training to ensure a high quality and consistent support service.

Donations can be made through tinyurl.com/CSFcycle. For more details, visit facebook.com/activityforlife or cancersupportfrance.org.
