Covid France: ‘Spare dose’ vaccine slots open to all from May 12

All adults in France will be able to book a Covid-19 vaccination appointment beginning May 12 if there is one available for the following day.

For example, if you search for an appointment next Wednesday and there is one available for the next day on Thursday, you will be allowed to book it.

President Emmanuel Macron made the announcement while on visit to a vaccination centre in Paris today (May 6), along with health minister Olivier Véran.

He said people could search for appointments online via booking platforms, such as Doctolib.

He also tweeted after the announcement to state people could search for appointments using the online tool Vite Ma Dose, a privately developed site that rapidly shows available vaccination appointments in your area.

The president also announced that everyone over 50, regardless of their health, will be eligible for a vaccination from May 10. This has been brought forward from May 15.

Over 50s will be able to begin booking appointments from tomorrow (May 7).

French health authority the Direction générale de la santé has announced that all 16 and 17 year olds in France with serious health issues are now eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in a vaccination centre.

It includes issues such as inherited immune deficiencies and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
