The temporary measure aims to help holidaymakers cope with rising living costs as they travel around France

French supermarket chain Casino has announced that this weekend customers will be able to exchange their toll road (péage) receipts for a voucher to be used in store, in order to help protect their spending power.

This offer, which begins today, will enable customers to get up to €40 in vouchers as long as they present their toll receipts. They will also only be able to use their tokens as part of a shop totalling more than €100.

Customers will be able to claim their vouchers until tomorrow evening (Saturday, July 30), and will have until Sunday evening (July 31) to use them.

“The offer is also valid for those going and returning over two days,” meaning that if they need to, customers can do two €100 shops using toll vouchers, Sébastien Corrado, Casino’s director-general, told Le Parisien.

Casino’s toll voucher deal comes on one of the busiest weekends of the year for traffic, as France’s July holidaymakers come back from their breaks and its August holidaymakers set off.

An addition to Casino’s 85-cent-per-litre fuel offer

The vouchers can be combined with Casino’s weekend fuel offer, which enables motorists to buy their petrol or diesel at €0.85 per litre and receive the difference in tokens to be used in the supermarket.

Drivers will be able to benefit from this deal every weekend until August 31.

However, they should bear in mind that these fuel vouchers are also only valid with a shop of €100 or more, meaning that if they combine them with their toll vouchers they will need to spend at least €200 in all.

Casino has said that it hopes to “support [its] clients as much as possible” as high fuel and food prices add to the cost of summer holidays.

Géant Casino will soon be no more

Casino has also announced that by the end of the first quarter of 2023, its Géant Casino stores will have been renamed ‘Casino #Hyper frais’ (Casino #SuperFresh).

This new branding has already been tested out at the chain’s Amiens, Angers, Nîmes and Salon-de-Provence stores, and will now be rolled out across the country.

“All of our 61 [Géant Casino] stores will shift to this new identity by the end of the first quarter of 2023, turning a page on five decades of ‘Géant Casino’,” the chain has said.
