With the season having begun this weekend in many areas, we look at the individual departmental start and end dates
France’s 2022-23 hunting season has just begun in the majority of the country’s metropolitan departments, although in some more northerly areas it will be next weekend or the weekend after.

We look at the start and end dates of this year’s season depending on the department in which you live.
Hunting season start dates by department
Above you will find a map showing the general hunting season start dates for each metropolitan French department.
There may be some variation within departments with regards to different types of game or towns with their own start dates.
In Ariège, for example, the season started on September 11 on lower ground and will start on September 18 in the mountains, for example.
It is best to double check with your local prefecture or mairie that there are no exceptions or variations in place within your department.

There may be some variation depending on the type of hunting, with later end dates sometimes being applied.
