PHOTOS: See the 14 places vying to be France’s most loved monument

The shortlist has been revealed ahead of the final result of this year’s competition in two weeks' time

The shortlist of 14 monuments vying to be named France’s most loved has been revealed, ahead of the final on September 14.

The competition, created by France 3, will reveal the winner on the final programme, Monument préféré des Français 2022, scheduled for 21:30 on September 14. 

The 2021 winner was the Place Stanislas in Grand Est.

This will coincide with the 39th annual Journées du Patrimoine (annual days to celebrate France’s heritage).

The shortlist is as follows:

  1. Le Rocher and Chapelle Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
  2. L'Abbaye de Fontenay, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
  3. La Chapelle de la Maison Saint-Yves, Brittany
  4. Le Château d’Azay-le-Rideau, Centre-Val de Loire
  5. The prehistoric site of Filitosa, Corse
  6. Le Fort de Schoenenbourg, Grand Est 
  7. L'Habitation Zévallos, Guadeloupe (Overseas territories)
  8. The Mining History Centre of Lewarde, Hauts-de-France
  9. Le Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, Île-de-France
  10. La Gare Maritime Transatlantique de Cherbourg et le sous-Marin Le Redoutable, Normandie
  11. L'Abbaye Saint-Martin-du-Canigou, Occitanie
  12. Le Musée Robert Tatin, Pays de la Loire
  13. La Synagogue de Carpentras, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur

The Pont Transbordeur (transporter bridge) de Rochefort, Nouvelle-Aquitaine also made the list.
