Small tum = small meals
Gastric band operations have quadrupled in the past 12 years and some restaurants have started to cater for patients who have reduced their stomach size so can eat very little.
The operation, called chirurgie bariatrique, led to the creation of the website Bariachef.com which lists restaurants offering reduced portion menus and slimmed-down prices, too.
Nutrition laboratory LNC had the idea in Bordeaux as band users need a lot of post-op support. Smaller menus give a double bonus of allowing people to enjoy dining out without wasting food.
So far, about two dozen restaurants are involved, mostly in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie.
