Can I get Covid-19 vaccine in France without a carte vitale?

Many foreigners living in France have private health insurance and are not in the public health system

*please refer to our more recent article on this topic, which you can read here - How to get Covid vaccine in France if no carte Vitale

Reader question: I do not have a carte vitale. Can I still get the Covid vaccination in France?

Many readers have emailed The Connexion with questions similar to this one.

A spokesperson at the British Embassy in France said today (January 20), "we understand that all persons residing in France will be eligible for vaccinations", however the French government has not officially confirmed this yet or set out the procedure for this.

The British Embassy is waiting to receive further clarifications on the matter, including whether non-residents currently in France will be eligible for the vaccine. The Connexion will publish all updates as and when we receive them.

For those who have applied for a carte vitale but not yet received one, the email confirmation of the application is sufficient documentation to receive the vaccine.

Everyone who can should take with them to the vaccination centre one piece of ID, their carte vitale (or email confirmation) or a Cpam attestation verifying your right to French healthcare. Anyone who has been a resident in France for at least three months and can prove they have access to a stable or regular income can apply for this. You can find an application form here (in French).

You can find out more about applying for a carte vitale here: France's Assurance Maladie website.

The Covid-19 vaccination in France will be offered for free to everyone and you will not be able to pay to receive it in advance of the schedule. There are no plans for any private vaccination access in France and beware of any scams which may be offering this online.
