Hornet traps are not answer

WITH reference to your articleon trapping Asian hornets, we gave up on traps when we realised how many moths, beetles and butterflies go for them. When our trap killed a scarce swallowtail, that was it.

As a former beekeeper, I can sympathise enormously but non-discriminatory insect traps should not be used unless they come up with an awful lot of hornet corpses and very little collateral damage or by-kill.

The only effective method of dealing with Asian hornets is nest destruction, by professionals. Look now, especially near beehives, before the leaves grow back on the trees.
