Fuel prices in France rise: latest as of October 5, 2026
Shortages affect 15% of stations nationwide and TotalEnergies sites in particular
Fuel prices in France rose over the weekend but still remain slightly below record highs.
Diesel (gazole) prices stood at €2.380 per litre on average.
Petrol is cheaper, with SP95-E10 at €2.172 per litre on average, and SP98 at €2.279.
All prices are slightly below the levels recorded in mid-September.
The graphic below shows how prices for all three fuel types have fluctuated since the start of the tensions in the Middle East between the US/Israel and Iran.
Prices can fluctuate across the week, and these averages do not represent costs at all fuel stations.
You can see fuel prices in your area using the government’s ‘prix carburant’ website, and use the unofficial ‘carbu’ website to check national average prices.
With major service station TotalEnergies maintaining its fuel cap of €1.99 per litre of petrol and €2.25 per litre of diesel, costs at many stations are higher than these averages.
Many stations remain out of stock
Drivers also have to contend with a lack of available fuel.
The majority of departments in France currently have between 10% to 25% of service stations out of at least one type of fuel.
In Paris and along the German border, figures are higher. Only Corsica remains free of any shortages. Nationally, 15% of stations are facing shortgages, and you can see updated figures through the government website here.
Many of these shortages are at TotalEnergies stations with drivers looking for the cheapest fuel.
