Are connecting flights affected?

Understand the formalities for transiting through France and Schengen areas

Are people on connecting flights – or transiting through France on other transport – concerned by EES?

EES formalities are linked to passing through borders, ie. where traditionally you would have your passport checked.

So, there will be none if travelling between Schengen states, but the formalities do apply if entering a Schengen territory from outside or going from Schengen territory to a non-Schengen country.

If you pass through Schengen on a connecting flight from one non-Schengen country to another and remain in an international transit area, for example at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, you should not be affected.

However, if you need to go out of this and to pass into French territory you will have to be registered into EES and, later on, to have Etias authorisation.
