Feu! Chatterton, Labyrinthe

You would be hard-pressed to find a contemporary French singer who looks more elegantly hip than Arthur Teboul, lead singer of the band Feu! Chatterton, which formed in 2011.

With his splendid moustache, cravats and suits, and a dynamic stage presence, he is a captivating performer.

But there is poetic substance to complement the style – the young Teboul was inspired by lyric-driven chanteurs such as Léo Ferré, Georges Brassens and Serge Gainsbourg, while musically the Feu! Chatterton sound was influenced by the more rock-oriented elements of Neil Young and Radiohead.

Their first two albums, Ici le Jour (a tout enseveli) (2015) and L’Oiseleur (2018), sold well, and the band was nominated for a Victoires de la Musique award for both.

Feu! Chatterton’s latest studio album, Labyrinthe, came out last year, with lead track Allons Voir a moody, mid-tempo, retro-sounding gem, while the title track Le Labyrinthe has a funky salsa rhythm.

The band performed two big concerts at the Accor Arena in Paris in February and is touring all summer.
