36% want the franc back
A substantial minority would like to return to the old currency and most people think the euro is a ‘handicap on purchas
MORE than a third of French people would still like to return to the franc, says a poll.
A total of 36% would like the old currency back, said an Ipsos/Logica poll for the association Lire la Société.
Furthermore, 45% thought that the euro is “a handicap” for the French economy generally (34% said it was an “asset”) and 62% thought the euro was a “handicap for purchasing power”.
Forty-nine per cent thought that in the future it is necessary to “reinforce the EU’s power’s in matters of budgetary and fiscal policy”, while 37% thought, on the contrary, that individual countries should be left more leeway in terms of budgetary policies.
