75% in favour of more CCTV

Poll finds widespread support for better CCTV in towns and on public transport

THREE quarters of French people are in favour of more CCTV in towns and cities, a new study has found.

The BVA poll for Le Figaro found widespread support for better filming of town centres, transport and other public places.

However, privacy watchdog CNIL says the number of complaints about CCTV is rising significantly - up 32 per cent in two years.

A number of towns are making the investment in CCTV and recouping the cost by using the cameras to fine illegally parked cars remotely - a system called vidéoverbalisation.
