Almost 900 service stations hit by fuel shortages
FOUR hundred and eighty service stations are completely out of fuel according to a website which gathers information from users around France.
Another 407 have run out of certain kinds of fuel, reports the site penurie.mon.essence whose data is generated by the Essence! mobile phone app.
That compares to yesterday’s situation where only 10 were said to have no supplies and 51 to be lacking at least one kind.
Affected sites are still mainly in the Ile-de-France but the problem is spreading to other parts of France (as shown in the map below, which updates in real time).
This is being caused by a strike by tanker drivers, called last Friday by the CGT union.
They want bosses and the government to sit down to talks on better recognition of the status of ‘dangerous substances driver’.
They want a maximum working day of 10 hours, weekly medicals, a minimum wage of €14/hour and a 13th month (double pay at the end of the year).
