Baker saves customer’s life
Mary Tomasi spotted that the man had failed to pick up his Bûche de Noël at Christmas
A BAKER saved the life of a customer over Christmas when she realised he had not come to pick up his Yule Log dessert.
Mary Tomasi, who works at a boulangerie in Lillers called the police and asked them to check on the customer, who was aged in his 60s, after he failed to collect a Bûche de Noël he had reserved over Christmas.
“We tried to get in contact but he didn’t respond. On Friday, Christmas Day, we were closed. I tried again on Saturday, nothing. Same on Monday, no response,” she said.
However when she called to report the problem, the police told her the man had most likely gone away for Christmas.
But when Ms Tomasi spoke with her neighbouring newsagent she found that the man had not cancelled his paper, nor come to collect it and decided to call the authorities again telling them: “If you find this man dead in a week, or a month or two, I know I did the right thing.”
The man, who lives in Lillers in Pas-de-Calais, was found unable to move but alive, after falling out of bed and being unable to move for five days.
He was taken to hospital and after being treated is in a stable condition and expected to recover.
