Ban on changes to numberplates
It is forbidden to alter your new-style numberplate, including putting a sticker on it
IT IS forbidden to alter your new-style numberplate, including putting a sticker on it to modify the department number.
This carries a €68 fine and your car could be taken off the road.
Originally the new plates were to just have a number, to stay with the car for life, unlike old ones whose number incorporated the code for the department in which you live.
After opposition from people who liked a department signifier, it was agreed that a department number and regional logo (of your choice) could go next to the main number on the plate.
