Brexit briefings to be held in south-west

BCC chairman Christopher Chantrey will be explaining the state of play in the negotiations and the importance to the expat community of avoiding a ‘no deal’ Brexit.

The 'Brexit briefings' will be on Wednesday November 8 at 16.00 in Bergerac and Thursday November 9 at around the same time in Périgueux. There will be tea and cakes and a small charge will be made to cover the cost of the events.

The Bergerac event is at the Hotel Vero, just off the airport roundabout, near Jardiland on the N21 on entering the town. The Périgueux one will be at Brasserie 7, just off the N6089 on the roundabout near motorway junction16.

Following plenty of initial interest in the Bergerac event the Périgueux one was added for those who cannot make the first one or for people wanting a follow-up to the previous event held in the town in April.

“Christopher is one of the few people who has all the details about Brexit – he has a wide grasp of all of the elements and consequences – and I can add my local expertise,” said one of the organisers, Claire Godfrey, who is BCC’s representative for the south-west.

“To give an idea, as a rough estimate, between Bergerac, Limoges, Poitiers, Tours and Bordeaux airports, a million British passengers use flights each year.

“In 2012, the economic intelligence study found that a person travelling through Bergerac was spending on average €900 per visit – and as things stand, if there is no deal, there will be no flights from April 2019.”
