Caught driving 11 times over limit
Auvergne woman faces up to two years in prison and a driving ban after driving with 5.76g/l of alcohol
A WOMAN in the Auvergne has been caught driving while more than 11 times over the legal drink limit - a record for the region.
The driver, in her sixties, faces up to two years in prison and a three-year driving ban after she was recorded with 5.76g of alcohol per litre of blood.
The drink-driving limit in France is 0.5g/l - roughly the equivalent of two small glasses of wine.
She was stopped by gendarmes in the Cantal who saw the car travelling erratically, zig-zagging across the road.
The driver was too drunk to follow their instructions to use the breathalyser and had to be taken to hospital in Aurillac.
The worst alcohol score ever recorded in France was in 2005, when a man in the Indre was stopped with 9.75g/l - almost 20 times over the limit.
