Children’s fruit compote recalled across France over patulin risk
This substance can cause gastrointestinal issues. Customers having bought the product from a U store should take it back for a refund
Children’s fruit compote is being recalled to U stores across France

Children’s ‘Mat & Lou’ fruit compote sold in Super U, Hyper U and U Express stores across France is being recalled because its patulin content exceeds permitted limits.
Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by a variety of moulds. It is most commonly found in rotting apples and will be present in tiny quantities in many fruits, vegetables and grains.
It does not produce any particular odour or taste, but if absorbed in too large quantities it can cause gastrointestinal problems such as ulcers, swelling, haemorrhages and also kidney damage.
People are advised to store their fruit and vegetables in dry places to prevent the toxin from developing, and not to consume a fruit which is visible mouldy.
The compotes affected by the recall have the expiry date October 31, 2023, the GTIN code 3256225042470 and the batch number L8937. .
Customers having bought it should take it back to the shop for a refund.
The recall procedure will come to an end on March 5, 2023.
