Christmas strike hits Amazon France

E-commerce site says it still expects to have items delivered in time for Christmas, despite some staff walking out

ONLINE shopping giant Amazon has said it is doing all it can to deliver presents in time for Christmas following a strike by staff at its French distribution centre in the Loiret.

About 60 workers belonging to the Force Ouvrière union walked out yesterday to protest about pay and working conditions during the retailer's busiest period of the year.

Union rep Sébastien Boissonnet told France Info: "We are under a lot of pressure. We're always told to work faster to serve customers and sometimes that puts our safety in danger."

An Amazon spokeswoman said: "We are doing all we can to make sure customers are not affected - they are our priority."
