Two people drown during sea walking session in Brittany
Strong currents turn sea walk into a deadly incident
Corsica nudist beach shooter is local café owner
A shooting on a Corsica nudist beach was carried out by a disgruntled local businessman, police have confirmed.
The shooting on Carateggio beach (also known as “little Tahiti”), which injured one woman in her thirties last Wednesday, was carried out by a beachside café owner who was unhappy with the nudist presence.
The man, who has not yet been named, walked on to the beach demanding the naturists get dressed, police confirmed. When they refused, he began firing a rifle. One woman was hit in the thigh as she fled, but is not in a serious condition, reports said.
Another man was questioned in connection with the incident, but has since been released, the statement said.
Carateggio beach, near Porto-Vecchio in the south of the island, is not an official naturist beach, but is well-known as a normally-safe nudist site, despite locals’ repeated complaints, and there is a local naturist ‘colony’ nearby.
The local police force has now launched an official inquiry in the incident, as well as investigating the worsening relations between the naturists and locals.
