Council saves soft toy from drain
Three-year-old boy has a smile on his face again after officials returned a toy he had lost down a drain in Nancy
A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy from Nancy has a smile on his face again after a team from the council rescued his toy rabbit when it fell down a drain.
The drama began on Valentine’s Day, as the boy, Martin, and his mother, Christelle, were walking in the rain.
She said: “Martin dropped his rabbit, which then rolled into the gutter before disappearing into a manhole. I tried to grab it, but it was impossible.”
The mum-of-three and her disconsolate son returned to their home in Diarville, a small village about 40km from Nancy, where Christelle filled in an official form declaring the incident - with little hope that any action would be taken over a small boy’s soft toy.
But she had a big shock in store.
“After getting home from work on Monday evening, I was surprised that I received two messages on my answering machine," she said.
“The first came from bosses at Nancy, who had sent a team to try to find the rabbit.”
The second was sent three hours later - telling the family the toy had been found.
Christelle said: “The officer who found the toy came to my workplace to deliver it in person. He had even cleaned it in a special soap.
“My son was very happy to have his little bunny back. I was pleased too, as I bought it when he was born.”
Talking about the team who rescued the soft toy, she said: “These are really dedicated people.”
