Drunk man fell asleep at wheel
Police had to wake him up by hammering on windscreen of car stopped at red light
POLICE had to wake a man who had fallen asleep – drunk – at the wheel of his car while it was stopped at a red light.
The 21-year-old was slumped fast asleep over the wheel when police saw the vehicle blocking the junction at Quai Alexandre-III in Cherbourg, Manche very early on Sunday morning.
Officers could only wake him up by hammering on the windscreen of his Renault Twingo and when he came to he could hardly speak.
An alcohol test showed he had 2.14g per litre - more than four times the legal level of 0.5g/l - and police confiscated his licence.
The young man, from Hardinvast, will now face charges.
