Low-cost airline easyJet is set to launch a new UK base next year in Newcastle, more than doubling the number of flights it operates out of the city and bringing a new French destination to its roster.

The carrier will launch 11 new routes on top of the eight current destinations, including a new one to Nice, as it adds three new aircraft to the city’s airport.

Starting from March next year, the flights will initially run three times per week during the summer season (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday), and complement the airline’s Newcastle-Paris and Newcastle-Lyon routes.

Rival low-cost airline Jet2 offers seasonal flights to Grenoble and Chambéry from Newcastle.

It is not currently possible to purchase tickets for the flights alone, however package holidays in the south of France including flights between Newcastle and Nice can be bought via the easyJet website for next summer.

Other destinations included in the expansion are:

Corfu and Rhodes (Greece), Faro (Portugal), Reus (Spain), Dalaman and Antalya (Turkey), Prague (Czechia), Sharm-el-Sheikh (Egypt), Malta, and Tunisia.

The base may be further expanded in August 2026 with a further three aircraft, and is part of plans by the airline to increase its offerings for UK passengers.

EasyJet recently announced the seasonal return of its London Gatwick-Toulouse route for the winter period after closing its base at the southern French city earlier this year.

Travellers may soon see new rules on compensation for delayed flights and hand luggage allowances for their flights, with MEPs set to vote on changes to these measures in the coming months.
