How diesel prices vary in France by distributor
Up to 34 cents a litre separates the cheapest and most expensive networks
Diesel prices have reached an average of €2.23 a litre in France, with motorists facing significant differences depending on where they fill up.
E.Leclerc had the lowest average price among the major networks, at €2.196 per litre, while Shell was the most expensive at €2.535.
The difference of 34 cents per litre means that a driver filling a 50-litre tank could pay almost €17 more, depending on where they buy their fuel.
Système U was the next cheapest at €2.205 per litre, followed by Les Mousquetaires at €2.209.
Auchan and Carrefour both averaged €2.211, while Elan was at €2.215.
TotalEnergies was exactly in line with the national average at €2.23. Prices were higher at Esso (€2.281), Dyneff (€2.282), Avia (€2.287) and ENI (€2.366).
The figures come as motorists in parts of eastern France continue to face localised shortages of unleaded petrol, linked to droughts.
However, diesel supplies have so far been relatively unaffected, with shortages mainly affecting SP95 and SP98.
