A technical problem has been affecting the SAMU emergency number, 15, across Franche-Comté in eastern France since yesterday afternoon (August 17).

“Please limit your calls to life-threatening emergencies,” the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) Besançon-Franche-Comté stated in a Facebook post.

The departments of Doubs, Haute-Saône, Jura and the Territoire de Belfort are affected, with residents being encouraged to prioritise calling 18 or 112. If you are hearing- or speech-impaired, use 114.

At the time of writing, this advice remains unchanged.

Following an emergency meeting yesterday evening, the CHU announced “a partial improvement in the situation. However, operations have not yet returned to normal and disruptions persist.”

The update details that teams at the CHU Besançon-Franche-Comté are “hard at work” alongside the relevant operators and technical experts, and are continuing investigations.

There is currently no reliable estimate of when normal service will resume and a further update will be published later today (August 18).
