EasyJet will launch a new route connecting Nice and Lyon starting in October, offering a more affordable way to travel between the two cities.

Until now, Air France has been the only airline operating this route, with its monopoly leading to high ticket prices.

Although Air France fares for the route can start at around €65, they often rise to over €200 for a one-way economy ticket.

This has meant that a return trip on this short route was frequently unaffordable for many travellers.

From October 26, however, easyJet will begin operating the same route twice a week (on Mondays and Fridays), providing a more economical alternative to enjoy a long weekend.

Tickets with the low-cost competitor are expected to start at approximately €42 and rise to around €80, significantly reducing the overall cost and even competing with train fares, which begin at around €25 but often increase to well over €100 per journey.

With flight times of about one hour, compared with approximately four hours for the fastest train, this newly introduced route is set to provide a quicker alternative to train travel.
