Teachers’ and students’ unions call off strikes and protests against government job cuts while they prepare for exams.

Teachers’ and students’ unions have called off strikes and protests against government job cuts while they prepare for exams.

The protest movement will begin again on the weekend before the start of the new school year (la rentrée).

The national secretary of the teachers’ union SE-Unsa, Dominique Thoby, said: “We have taken account of all the demonstrations that have taken place this year. They were successful but we have had no response from the government.”

“The government must realise the anger and exasperation of the education community is still there.”
