Family carriages launched on TGV
Ten carriages for families 'to make as much noise as they want' launch on lines from Paris to Marseille and Montpellier.
FAMILY-only carriages have been launched on two TGV lines between Paris and Marseille and Paris and Montpellier.
The 4,400 seats went on sale yesterday for journeys taking place every Saturday between July 4 and August 1 at 9.20 and 14.16, leaving from the gare de Lyon in Paris.
President of the SNCF Guillaume Pepy said: “The idea is that for summer holidays, it is important to find new ways of travelling for families. That way, everyone can make as much noise as they like.”
Named TGV Family, the initiative also includes reduced train fares with up to 60% off for children under 12 on the price of the lowest adult fare. Disneyland Paris will also be providing entertainment on board.
The idea is still only a trial, however if it proves popular the SNCF hopes to launch further similar initiatives, including for pensioners.
