France-UK flights cancelled due to coronavirus
Dozens of flights from the UK to France have been cancelled in the last week due to low bookings which is being attributed to the Covid-19 virus.
British Airways has cancelled around 171 flights from and to London Heathrow and Gatwick, including a dozen UK - France and France – UK services.
The airline said it is contacting passengers who are affected to rebook or to receive a refund.
Several other destinations are affected including Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, and JFK airport in New York.
Connexion reader Diana Jackson has told us how her flight from London to France after a holiday was cancelled yesterday just five minutes after she placed an online booking. However, she praised the speed at which she was transferred to another flight on the same day. She said: “It was quickly resolved.”
A British Airways spokesperson said: “This is a fast-moving situation. We are following the advice from the relevant authorities.
“We will contact customers if flights are cancelled to discuss their options, including rebooking onto other carriers where possible, full refunds or booking with BA for a later date of travel.
“Customers can also find the latest information and options on BA.com.”
Easyjet and Ryanair have also reduced their number of flights, mainly to and from Italy, between March 13 and April 4.
Ryanair has cut 25% of its flights due to the lack of bookings. The company said all customers affected will be advised of the schedule changes at least 14 days in advance.
