France’s Covid vaccination calendar: Who is eligible and when?

All people aged 18 and over will be eligible for a Covid-19 vaccination in France from June 15.

France continues to gradually open up the vaccination to different groups of people based on age and health.

All adults (people aged over 18) suffering from obesity, hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure, heart failure or cancer are now eligible for a vaccination.

Covid vaccination in France opens to all adults with health issues

From May 15, all people in the 50-54 age bracket, regardless of health, will be eligible for a vaccination.

There are currently four vaccine types being used in France: Those of AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

For reasons linked to extremely rare blood clotting issues, the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are only being given to patients aged over 55.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has said of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine that the benefits “outweigh its risks in adults of all age groups; however, very rare cases of blood clots with low blood platelets have occurred following vaccination”.

Currently in France, all adults over 60 are eligible for any of the four vaccine types and all adults aged 50-59 are eligible to receive either AstraZeneca's or Johnson & Johnson's vaccine.

There are several ways to book a Covid-19 vaccination appointment including by calling vaccination centres, contacting your GP or pharmacy, booking directly online through various websites or phoning a free helpline to ask an operator to arrange an appointment.
