French farmer accused of speeding at 150kph in tractor
A French farmer has received a speeding fine accusing him of driving at 150kph – in his 30-year-old tractor.
Rémi Gervais, a winegrower from Montagnac, Hérault, received the fine on Friday from Belgian traffic police in Namur saying that he had been ‘flashed’ by a speed camera.
But Mr Gervais has said that the tractor in question “does not go faster than 30kph… downhill”.
“I think I have more chance of winning the lottery than reaching that speed,” he told France Bleu Hérault. “You have to laugh. Maybe my tractor can get into the record books.”
Mr Gervais also insisted he had never been in Belgium and contacted police there to remedy the error. It is believed it was either a mistake or a case of licence plate fraud.
