French teens lauded for handing in €4,000 train find

The seven teenagers, from Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine), were travelling on an RER A train towards the leisure area of Les Étangs de Cergy - to the north west of Paris - when they discovered two plastic bags filled with money bills.

The bags had been left under the train seats.

The total amount was worth more than €4,000. One of the bags contained €4,180 in total, in notes of €10, €20 and €50.

There was also a withdrawal receipt among the cash.

Rather than take the money for themselves, the teenagers decided to change their plans, and instead headed to the Cergy-le-Haut (Val’d’Oise) train station to hand the bags in at the police station.

The owner of the cash has not yet been identified, but the police director commended the teenagers for their quick thinking, and their “civic” awareness.
