Hospitals and clinics 'at war'

Spat erupts after private clinics accuse public hospitals of being too expensive

HOSPITAL bosses have complained of “a real attack” by private clinics who have accused them of being too expensive in a publicity campaign.

“We do not at all do the same thing,” said Claude Evin, president of the la Fédération Hospitalière de France (FHF).

Hospitals deal with most emergencies, for example, he said. He added that clinics’ official prices left out many supplementary costs and the tariffs were not comparable.

According to the Fédération de l’Hospitalisations Privée, clinics’ tariffs are 37% less than those in public hospitals and the hospitals’ services are overpriced in terms of the money they are paid by health insurance bodies for the care patients receive.

It is planned that clinics and hospitals should have the same tariffs by 2018.
