How green was their river..?
There’s a very good reason why La Blaise river in Haute Marne turned a shocking shade of green earlier this week
RESIDENTS in the Haute-Marne were shocked to discover that a river that flows through their quiet corner of rural France had turned a fluorescent shade of green earlier this week - but experts have assured residents that there is no danger to public health.
In fact, the dramatic colour change of La Blaise river is part of an important hydrogeological study to protect the source of another river, the Dhuits, being carried out on behalf of the Syndicat d’Alimentation en Eau de Colombey-les-deux-Eglises.
Experts said that the dye, which could colour the water for up to two months, is totally safe for the environment and also poses no risk to supplies of drinking water.
Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises is best known as the burial place of Charles de Gaulle.
