In Pictures: The Tour de France so far

Another day of non-tarmac racing faces the peloton, as they return to the saddle after a rest day in Annecy.

Following the cobbles of Roubaix in stage nine, the 10th stage is a 158.5km run from Annecy to Le Grand-Bornand and includes a 1.8km stretch along the history Plateau des Glières which has no tarmac. The plateau was an important site of the French Resistance during the Second World War, and is now home to a national monument honouring 121 fighters who were killed by Nazis in March 1944.

This is the first of six days' straight in the saddle for the riders ahead of the next rest day in Carcassonne, with Welshman Geraint Thomas currently heading the British challenge for the yellow jersey. The Welshman is second to Greg Van Avermaet in the general classification after nine stages, 43 seconds off yellow and 59 seconds ahead of his Team Sky leader and defending champion Chris Froome.

Thomas has said that if he is still in with a shot of the yellow jersey after Thursday's stage at Alpe d'Huez, he may push for the race lead.
