Hotel owners looking for a couple to increase the quality of food and service to be among the best in Scotland
The Bridge Hotel, Helmsdale, located in the Highlands of Scotland, is looking for a couple to run this small countryside hotel, with a French touch.
After several changes in management, the hotel has gone from strength to strength in the last three years and is now breaking even. The owners would like to take it to the next higher level. If you are experienced in running a boutique hotel and are interested in the challenge of pushing a small business to become a profitable venture, then you could also receive shares in the enterprise.
The hotel has 18 en suite rooms, two restaurants, a bar and a residents’ lounge. It is open all year round with the summer being the busiest time.
The bar has over 200 whiskies – one of the largest collection in northern Scotland. The owners would like to further improve the two restaurants, The Green Stag and The Red Lobster to eventually rank among the best in the north of Scotland.
The hotel has its own lobster tanks, while also available locally are crabs, scallops, oysters mussels, langoustines and all the North Sea fish.
From the hills and the woods the kitchen can receive grouse, woodcock, snipe, pheasant, partridge, duck, pigeons, red deer, white hare and rabbits, as well as prime beef and lamb.
The hotel would like to continue to promote its restaurants to reach the highest possible level of eating in the Highlands. The Green Stag has been shortlisted to host a Chaine des Rotisseurs dinner in spring next year.
The successful applicants should have several years experience in running small hotels, with one preferably being a chef. They must be fluent in spoken English, have great communication and presentation skills, plenty of charm, as well as a passion and keen interest in food. They must be pro-active, client-focused and will be in charge of the whole operation, including the team of five to ten co-workers depending on the season.
If you are interested in hunting and fly fishing for salmon or trout yourself, then the northern Highlands is the right place for you and we will help you to find the right contacts for you to pursue your hobbies.
The hotel maintains a picturesque, furnished, two bedroom cottage nearby, overlooking the village, the Helmsdale valley and the North Sea which is available to the successful applicants to rent at £350 per month, plus council tax, electricity, water and heating at approximately £120.
The combined salary will depend on the experience and skills of both applicants and ranges between £35,000 and £40,000. The managing couple may eat free at the hotel, either with the staff or in one of the restaurants if they wish. Successful applicants will be invited to propose how they would partake in the share of the profit in the future.
