Justice minister Taubira resigns
Minister was opposed to a proposal to strip convicted terrorists of their French citizenship
FRANCE'S justice minister Christiane Taubira has resigned in protest at a plan to strip convicted terrorists of their French dual-citizenship - a proposal due to be debated in parliament from today.
The citizenship proposal was put forward after the November 13 terror attacks in Paris and Taubira had criticised the idea publicly, calling it "completely useless" in a TV interview last month.
In a statement, the Elysée palace said President Hollande and Taubira "agreed on the need to bring her role to an end at a time when debate on constitutional revision begins in the National Assembly".
The statement went on to praise Taubira's role in championing same-sex marriage laws.
She will be replaced by Finistère MP Jean-Jacques Urvoas.
