Lacroix fêted at ‘last’show

Collegues and friends support Christian Lacroix – whose house is in administration - at winter collection show

A STANDING ovation and banners saying “Christian Lacroix Forever” summed up the feelings at what could be Christian Lacroix’s last fashion show as the audience gave their support to the beleaguered fashion designer.

The Parisian fashion house, created in 1987, has been put into receivership and the models had offered to work for nothing to make sure the show – for the winter collection – went ahead.

The show was held in a room offered by the cultural association Les Arts Décoratifs and featured dark coloured clothes, especially black and blue, highlighted with golden embroidery. Embroidery and shoes were offered free by the embroiderer Hurel and the shoemaker Roger Vivier.

Colleagues and friends expressed disbelief at the fact the fashion house could be wound up. Former top model Inès de la Fressange said: “Everyone in fashion feels concerned. Larcoix was the first to give taste back to haute couture – 30 years ago or so it was a bit old-fashioned."
