Languedoc opens London office

New centre will promote trade between the UK and southern French region.

The Languedoc-Rousillon region will promote greater trade links with the UK via a new office in London.

The president of the region Georges Frêche cut the ribbon at the Maison de la Region Languedoc-Roussillon in Cavendish Square.

Mr Frêche launched the strategy to raise the region’s profile in key cities around the world in 2004.

Languedoc-Rousillon is the only French region to establish bases internationally and the London office is the fourth after others in Brussels, Milan and Shanghai.

A spokesman for the region said it also plans to open an office in New York shortly.

The focus of the offices will be on food, wine and tourism.

“This is music to the ears of Anglophones with business interests such as gites and B&B accommodation, holiday home rentals or property sales in the Languedoc,” added the spokesman.

The Maison de la Région Languedoc-Roussillon will help business from the region get established in the UK and provide French enterprises with information on British markets.

It will also help promote the region’s food and wine under the Sud de France brand.

The UK is the third largest importer of AOC Languedoc-Roussillon wines with British consumers drinking 64 million bottles last year, according to a regional spokesman.
