Madonna heats up cold war with FN
Queen of pop’s Instagram post reignites war of words with France’s Front National
POP STAR Madonna and France’s Front National have reignited a war of words that began in 2012.
The singer turned to social media to wade into the growing controversy surrounding the Front National’s success in the European elections.
She posted an image of the post-European election day front page of French newspaper Liberation to her 1.6million Instagram followers, with the comment: “Russia. Ukraine. Venezuela, now France?!!!!! #fight Fascism #fightdiscrimination #fightlynchmobmentality #fighthatred #fightdorffreedom #revolutionoflove”
In response, the Front National’s vice president Florian Philippot sarcastically tweeted: “In politics, too, Granny Gaga has lost it”.
The reference to Madonna’s age mirrored a studied insult to the 55-year-old queen of pop made by the FN two years ago.
In 2012, the pop star was threatened with legal action and accused of being an ageing self-publicist after she depicted Ms Le Pen as a Nazi during a concert in Tel Aviv, shortly before her MDNA tour was due to arrive in France.
Mr Philippot had earlier spoken out against French singers Yannick Noah and Benjamin Biolay, who he described as “excellent election officials” for the FN.
