Meteorite spotted over east France
A bright green ball lit up the night sky across Alsace and Lorraine
A METEORITE shot across the skies of Alsace and Lorraine last night, witnesses say.
There are reports on social media of numerous sightings of the bright greenish-coloured ball lighting up the night sky in areas in France as well as Switzerland, Austria and Germany – and it was filmed by two drivers, in Austria and Germany (our image shows the ball in the middle of the sky).
The sightings, around 21.00 last night, have been confirmed by an observatory as being a meteorite but it is not yet known where it landed.
Witnesses told Swiss newspaper Le Matin they saw “a flash, like a bolt of lightning”. Others said they saw the “sky go from darkness to daylight”, and others spoke of hearing a bang as the meteorite passed overhead.
