Monaco welcomed 6.7 million visitors in 2025: US and UK among its top international markets
Most visitors are ‘same-day’, but overnight visitors account for the majority of Monaco’s tourism spending
Monaco has published its 2025 tourism statistics, showing when visitor numbers peak, where travellers come from and how much they tend to spend there.
In total, Monaco welcomed 6.7 million visitors last year generating €1.35 billion. Most were day visitors (92.5%), while 7.5% stayed overnight in Monaco.
The summer months, especially July and August were the busiest, with 898,000 and 822,000 visits respectively. Additionally, May was particularly busy as well, with 726,000 visits, mainly boosted by the Monaco Grand Prix.
For those looking to experience the classic Monaco experience with sunshine, the beach and lively atmosphere, late spring and summer are the best periods to visit. But these are also the busiest and most expensive periods.
For overnight visitors, average spending reached €2,365 per person per stay in the second quarter of 2025 (April to June), partly due to the Monaco Grand Prix, compared with an annual average of €1,669.
Then, the quietest months are January, March and November, when visitor numbers are significantly lower (between 275,000 and 366,000), according to the survey.
These figures come a little more than a year after Monaco was named Best European Destination 2025, becoming the first French-speaking destination to top the ranking since Bordeaux in 2015.
The award followed a vote involving more than one million travellers from over 170 countries. Monaco’s government said the recognition would strengthen the principality’s international image, particularly among luxury and sustainable tourism markets. The United States accounted for 42% of votes and the United Kingdom for 34%, according to the Monaco government.

Americans and Britons among Monaco’s biggest tourist groups
France remains Monaco’s biggest visitor market, accounting for 47.9% of all visits, largely because of its proximity. Italy also represented a large part of visitors, with 7.9% of visits.
However, among visitors who stay overnight, Monaco attracts a much more international audience.
North America accounted for 12.1% of overnight tourist visits, making it the largest non-EU regional tourist market. Looking at individual countries, the United States represented 9.9% of tourist visits, while the United Kingdom accounted for 8.7%, placing both among Monaco’s leading international markets.
Overall, visitors from outside the European Union made up 41.9% of tourists staying overnight.
Even though tourists (staying overnight) represented only a small share of visits, they generated the majority of visitor spending.
A day visitor spent an average of €76, compared with €348 per day for tourists staying overnight.
