More rain alerts in south east France, forecaster says
Five departments in the south-east of France are on orange alert for storms, rain and flooding today, forecaster Météo France has said.
Var (83), Aveyron (12), Gard (30), Hérault (34) and Lozère (48) are all warned to be alert to the consequences of strong rainfall and potentially-high water.
Residents are reminded to not go near any wooded areas during a storm, and to be careful near any bodies of water, including the sea, or flooded areas.
The alert for “orange” is second-most severe, one down from “red”.
Drivers should check their routes before travelling, and be prepared in case they become stuck or stranded; and any outside work or sporting events may need to be postponed.
The alert comes in the same week as heavy snowfall caused chaos in the Haute-Loire, and Corsica experienced high winds and flooding after storm Adrian hit.
Thousands of homes were left without power and hundreds of drivers were stranded overnight as snow blocked roads and brought down trees and power lines.
All red warnings have now been lifted.
