MPs to debate referendum on Brexit deal
An MPs' debate will be held on December 11 into whether there should be a referendum on accepting any final deal that emerges from the Brexit talks.
The debate which will be live online at parliamentlive.tv will consider a proposal that the public should have the final say on whether to accept the deal, leave without the deal, or revoke article 50 and remain. If there is no deal, it is suggested that a referendum be held on the other two options.
This follows a successful petition to the government and parliament. Any petition that gains more than 100,000 signatures in support, from residents of Britain or British citizens, is usually scheduled for a debate unless, for example, the topic has already been debated recently.
The debate will be held in Westminster Hall, a room off the main House of Commons chamber which is used for MPs to discuss issues of interest to them. It will not end in an actual vote on holding a referendum.
