New Crit’Air sticker video surveillance for drivers in Paris

A video surveillance system is to be set up this year to catch and fine motorists driving in the greater Paris area without the required environmental Crit’Air stickers on their cars.

The system will also be used to fine motorists in areas they should not be in because of their vehicle’s Crit’Air rating.

In Paris, all Crit’Air 5 cars are banned from entering the inner suburbs between 08.00 and 20.00 during the week.

Vehicles with a Crit’Air 4 sticker – diesel cars registered between 2001 and 2005 – will also be banned from entering during the same 12-hour period from June.

Motorists driving without a sticker on their car, or with the wrong sticker, can receive a fine ranging from €68 to €450.

Currently, it is the job of police officers to check stickers on cars.

Other cities where Crit’Air stickers apply, in differing circumstances, include Toulouse, Strasbourg, Lille, Lyon, Grenoble, Rennes and Marseille. You can get a sticker online.

The cost is €3.67 to a French address.
