New ferry service to link Corsica and Var

Weekly route increases options for travellers

The new line reinforces links between Corsica and the French mainland

A new ferry service connecting Var with the island of Corsica is set to open next month, bringing winter travel options.

Corsica Ferries will open its Toulon - Propriano line on November 6, linking the French mainland with the quaint port town on the island’s west coast.

It is the first service to link the two harbours, although rival Corsica Linea offers a Marseille-Propriano route.

Propriano is a small port town of around 3,000 inhabitants, around an hour away from the island’s capital Ajaccio.

The service will run once per week, at least over the winter season.

It will depart from Toulon on Thursday evenings, arriving Friday morning in Propriano via a stop-off in Ajaccio (around an hour before docking at the final destination).

A return service heading towards Toulon is scheduled for Friday evenings, arriving on Saturday morning in Toulon.

However, several other services depart more regularly from Corsica’s larger ports to the mainland (including to Nice and Marseille as well as Toulon), so it is possible to find alternatives if you do not want to stay for a week.

Currently, a single ticket costs €26 one-way.

This does not include a cabin (overnight lodging is not mandatory) nor options for dinner or breakfast.

It costs around €60 extra to bring a car, rising for the price/weight of the vehicle and if a caravan is attached.
