TIGHTER rules on the sale of glasses and contact lenses on the internet are planned for next year.
Eye doctors fear some people may not be getting correct prescriptions and eye diseases may not be being picked up.
They say people needing complex lenses for serious problems are least suited to buying on websites, which offer large reductions, compared to the classic route of seeing an eye specialist and then buying from an optician in person.
A spokeswoman for one site, www.happyview.fr, said it was not surprising that many people now use services like theirs, as they are able to quarter typical prices paid.
