Air France is unlikely to cancel flights this summer due to jet fuel shortages, the airline has announced.
The French flag carrier made the announcement in a joint-statement with partner KLM. The airlines also said they do not anticipate any disruption to fuel supplies in July and August.
The group becomes the latest in the sector to publicly play down concerns of summer disruption due to fuel shortages. Low-cost carrier Ryanair made a similar announcement in May.
‘No cancellations are expected for this reason… [We] will maintain their originally scheduled flight programs,” said Air France-KLM.
“We are constantly monitoring fuel availability at the airports we serve, and as the French and Dutch governments have noted in recent weeks, the signs are positive for the peak summer season in July and August,” said chief executive of the group Benjamin Smith, quoted in Le Parisien.
“During this period, our airlines will operate nearly 2,200 flights per day to more than 320 destinations worldwide.”
Earlier in spring, the low-cost arm of the group Transavia cancelled a number of flights scheduled in June over jet fuel shortage fears.
Air France and KLM also confirmed that they had not implemented surcharges on already-purchased tickets, despite fluctuations in jet fuel cost.
However, Air France did raise prices on certain long-haul flights by up to €100 in spring.
Flexible ticket promotion
On Wednesday (June 3), the group also announced a promotional campaign in a bid to entice passengers back to the skies.
Alongside a general ticket sale, passengers on certain Air France-KLM routes departing from France will be able to change their departure date free of charge, regardless of the fare selected or travel class.
Dates can be altered at any point up until the date of travel, providing greater flexibility for travellers.
The offer is largely targeted at long-haul travellers, who may be concerned about disruption due to the conflict in the Middle East.
It is one of several pieces of good news for air passengers in France – for those travelling closer to home, flight taxes on 26 regional routes have been axed, reversing increases introduced in 2025.
