Paris transport prices up in July
Inflation-busting fare increases of up to 6.7% on metro, bus and tram passes will come into effect on July 1
USING public transport in Paris is to become more expensive from July 1, with price rises of up to 6.7% on some tickets.
The increases are due to be passed by the Ile-de-France region at a meeting this Wednesday and are estimated to bring in an extra €118m a year.
The biggest rise will be to the price of a monthly Navigo pass covering zones 1-2, which will cost €60.40 - up 6.7% from €56.60.
An extra €3.80 will be added to zone 1-3 and 1-4 passes, while commuters living in zones 5 and 6 will see no price rise.
Individual tickets for the bus, metro or tram will cost €1.70 - up 6.25% from €1.60. A carnet of 10 tickets goes up from €11.60 to €12.
The RoissyBus shuttle service from the city centre to Charles de Gaulle airport will be priced at €9.40 - an extra 30 centimes. The OrlyBus will charge €6.60, up 20 centimes.
Ile-de-France Socialist president Jean-Paul Huchon said the price rises would allow the region to continue investing in improvements to the transport network.
However the move has been condemned by UMP members on the regional assembly, led by Higher Education Minister Valérie Pécresse, who says the rise is more than double the rate of inflation.
